Terms of Service

skipper.id is in a private pilot. By using it you agree to the terms below, which apply while we validate the product with a small group of skippers and charter companies.

What the service does

skipper.id stores the sailing credentials and identity documents you upload, tracks their expiry dates, reminds you before they lapse, and lets you share a selected view of them with a charter company through a link you create and can revoke at any time.

What the service does not do

skipper.id does not issue, certify or guarantee any credential.We store and display what you give us. A profile on skipper.id says “this skipper uploaded this document” — it is not a statement that the qualification is genuine, current, or accepted by any authority. Charter companies, insurers and port authorities remain responsible for their own checks.

Where a document can be checked against the issuing body, we may show what that body reports. That is the issuer’s statement, not ours, and we do not guarantee it is available or correct.

We read dates and numbers off your uploads automatically to save you typing. That reading can be wrong — which is why you confirm every field before it is saved. The values that count are the ones you confirmed.

Your responsibilities

• Upload only documents that are yours, or that you have the right to upload.
• Keep the information accurate. An expired or superseded certificate on your profile is your responsibility to update.
• Look after your account: keep your password to yourself, and share links only with people who should see them.
• Do not upload anything unlawful, or anything containing another person’s data without their agreement.

Sharing

A share link exposes only what you selected when you created it, expires on the date you set, and can be revoked immediately. Once someone has opened a document you shared, we cannot un-see it for them — revoking stops future access, not what has already been viewed.

Availability

During the pilot the service is provided as-is, with no uptime promise. We may change features, pause the service, or ask for feedback that shapes it. We will not delete your data without telling you.

Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from your settings; that removes your profile, documents, identity records and share links, subject to the retention windows described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend an account that is used to upload another person’s documents without their agreement, or to break these terms.

Still to be settled

These clauses need legal drafting and are deliberately not written here rather than guessed at: the operating entity and its registered address, governing law and jurisdiction, limitation of liability, and how disputes are resolved. They will be published, with legal review, before skipper.id is available outside the private pilot.
